Quote:
"After all, every story had two sides. Who was she to decide right from wrong?"

Summary:
Logan lives in a candy factory. His father is the candymaker, and Logan knows that one day he will follow in his father's footsteps. Life Is Sweet (the candy factory that he lives in) is chosen to host some contestants for the annual candymaking contest. Logan is twelve, so he can finally enter. Three other kids also go to Life Is Sweet to prepare entries: Miles, Daisy, and Philip. The kids soon realize that something is going on, and find themselves full of surprises and secrets.

What I Liked:
This story was very creative. In the beginning they go on a tour, and there are a lot of different candies, each with different features. There are also 28 other contestants besides the four from Life is Sweet, and some of their candies are described as well. I liked seeing this, and a candy factory how Mass imagined it. It is different than I would imagine a candy factory in real life, but it is perfect for a world seen in a book.
Another thing that made the book interesting was the characters. There were four main characters: Logan, Miles, Daisy, and Philip. Each of them had their own backstory and their own reasons for being in the contest. There are five parts to this book. There are four for each of the different kids' perspectives, and then another for Logan at the end.

What I Didn't Like:
The first four parts of the book were all set at the same time. They were all about the time leading up to this one moment in the book. Mass did a good job of making sure that not a lot of information was repeated, but some still was. Also, most of the conversations were in the first part, with only new conversations in the following three. This wasn't a big thing though, because each character spent a lot of time not with the others, so their parts were different.

Rating: 8.8 / 10

Why?:
I grew up with this book. I've had it for years, and it introduced me to the world of Wendy Mass (who is a really cool author). To me, I read this book while on book marathons.

Note: This book's sequel (The Candymakers and the Great Chocolate Chase) is coming out on August 2, 2016.
