KPOP: 6/26/18 BAAM by Momoland 💚

Image
So at last, momoland has come back. Ever since they've been destroying the charts with Bboom Bboom they seem to be milking the same concept of this upbeat party song, because Baam gives a lot of the same vibes that Bboom Bboom did. There's a huge dance break at the start of the song, there's a dance vibe to it, and I dunno I think there's also a little rap section after the chorus? I dunno well here are my thoughts. Pre Chorus: So everything before the chorus is pretty upbeat. Again, like Bboom Bboom there's a massive dance break in the beginning, which obviously watching it in shows it's really cool but when listening to it during a road trip it can get a little hard to deal with. This is a huge party song, and it has a nice dance vibe to it. There's also a lot going on, like it seems like multiple people are singing at once (not at once but there's never a pause in lyrics or whatever it kinda comes at you. Take it how you want). Chorus: The thing I

YOUTUBE: 6/22/18 DJ Khaled Has the Worst Shoot in America...

Alright, so it looks like I haven't posted in a while, so later today I'm probably gonna drop a review on Red Velvet's japenese debut. I'm also gonna have a reflection post on Square Up and some other things I've been hearing about their release, so that'll be fun I guess. Anyways, here's a quick little post for you guys. I saw this on YouTube in the other day and was dying of laughter. Here's an amazing clip of DJ Khaled who possible has the most uncoordinated and worst shoot in America.

KPOP: 6/18/18 See U Later by Blackpink 💚

Image
It really has been a magical 9 days. This group has been my first kpop group and it's been really fun reviewing their songs and listening to the new music they have produced. And so, we end the week (and a bit more) of blink with see u later, the last track of their album. This is kinda their bad girl song, obviously about a guy, breaking up with him (see u later) and overall it was very great. Before Chorus: So the song starts out with this guitar thing and it isn't bad, but I do feel like it is a little out of place. However, it sets this chill but powerful mood, like sit back and relax I'm about to blow you away, I dunno this falls into the category of hard to explain moods. Anyway, Jisoo begins the song and has a really good tone, which I enjoyed. Also Lisa has a singing part which is really good. But what these two verses were kinda lacking was a rhythm. It just didn't seem to quite line up with the background rhythm. However, Jennie's part had a swing, not q

MY FAVORITE SONG HAS ARRIVED. I could go on and on about this song, it is soooooo goood. But in an effort to not drive away any non kpop fans, i will keep it concise. Oh and aI think I like this new style of reviewing so I'll keep it, but instead of doing what I did with Forever Young, I'm going to be grouping things in bigger sets like "Before Chorus" "After First Chorus" "Chorus" and "Bridge". Anyways, Let's go. Intro/Chorus: oddly enough the song begins with the chorus, however, I'm going to have to group this in the intro section as it is how the song begins. AND I LOVE THE INTRO. it has this sort of swing feel to it when jennie/rose sing "If you really, really love me, malhaejwo" that it so catchy and I really love. The tone of their voices is also supper addicting and overall I really like how the chorus is structured. One thing i have to note is that it struck me a bit odd that there was no introductory beat or

KPOP: 6/16/18 Forever Young by Blackpink 💚

Alright so I can't anymore. This new format I have has to go down the drain, because with these next two songs, like holy cow it just doesn't work with the whole instrumental and then lyrics. These next two reviews are my two all time favorite songs from BlackPink, so of course things will be done a little differently. Hopefully this style works well, let me know if you'd rather have this style. So my new style is just going to be going through the song like from the first verse to chorus, second bridge, and so on, and pointing out the stuff I like and don't like. The Intro: ONE OF MY FAVORITE PARTS BECAUSE JENNIE KIM ABSOLUTELY KILLS HER PART. Like she goes into the song so beautifully and the whole "I could die in this moment" has honestly become one of the more iconic moments of the song, almost as iconic as the chorus itself "Forever Young". The background music is so slow and kind of gives this ominous mood where you just don't know what

KPOP: 6/14/18 DDU-DU DDU-DU by Blackpink 💚

WOOOOOOO BLACKPINK CAME BAAAACKKKKKKKK. Alright so for those future readers, sidenote I was not about to wait until 4AM to listen to their comeback, however I did wake up and the first thing I did was put up the Music Video and I meannnnnn wow it was really pretty good. I currently have not listened to the other songs yet, but if this is the title track, I should be in for an amazing album. I think I'll spend the next few days just raving about this album, so future me will probably call this the week of blackpink or something I dunno. Anyways, here we go. Instrumental: Alright, so I"m really trying hard to characterize this beat but it's like, Blackpink's concept is that there so unique and different from all the other groups, which really shined here. There was so much going on in this beat, sometimes it feels like the Boombayah vibes when it's all loud and powerful but other times it felt like Playing With Fire where it was just lowkey and chill, like a really

KPOP: 6/14/18 Stay by Blackpink 💚

WE ARE T MINUS 4 HOURS UNTIL SQUARE UP DROPS!!!! Alright so I know that none of you guys are gonna read this like actually before square up drops, but for future readers, just a little note I will not be staying up to 4 when it actually drops. Like I'm a blink and all but not a superfan. I will try to review DDU-DU DDU-DU at around 9 AM my time and it will probably be just the third perfect score. Oh and quick shoutout to my mans Seth Le and @blink.gang on instagram, they're cool I guess. Instrumental: Alright so this is a nostalgic ish song, you know reminiscing about somg guy or whatever, but it isn't a SUPER slow song (85 bpm not bad for a slow sappy ish love song). Overall, the instrumental set the mood a lot and really gets you in the feels. From a grander perspective, I love the contrast in background music; in the other songs it's more fast and I wanna say "electronic" but I know it isn't really, but in here you can really tell it is almost like f

ONE MORE FREAKING DAY WOOOO. Very excited for this blackpink comeback. Here we are on the third leg of the blackpink review extravaganza. Let's get right into it (I guess). Instrumental: So this song is very unique from the others. While the other songs are either powerful (whistle is kinda but Boombayah is definitely) or soft or whatever ("Stay" which review will be coming next), this song is like the bop of the soundtrack, just a casual (still very good though) song to play, and the instrumental makes it an extremely fun song to listen to. The piano at the beginning sets the mood for the song, the little drop at the chorus is very nice, and overall the medium tempo (around 100 ish I think) helps set the song to a very nice, summery song (not as summery as As If It's Your Last, but still a great song for our summer playlist) Lyrics: The lyrics themselves, I will quickly mention, are very nice. I looked at one of thre lyric videos and I really love Lisa's rap

KPOP: 6/13/18 Whistle by Blackpink 💚

Alright guys and gals strap in your seat buckles for round freaking 2 of the blackpink 2 day review-extravaganza. Not trying to give too much prelude here, because I feel like that would be annoying by the time we hit rounds 3 and 4 of this, so yeah, here goes said review. Instrumental: So this is a really almost calming beat/background music, which of course sets the mood for the calming ish song. It is kinda lowkey and is a pretty good bop. Obviously, it's in the title, but the whistling bits at the beginning are really cool. Especially with the dance and whatever, YG has done it again. Also, especially towards the chorus buildup with Rose (and Jisoo), I REALLY love the compliment of the beat with their voices. I dunno, I listened to this song a lot last year, and listening to it again just gives me this nostalgic mood. It just doesn't feel like this song is two years old. Also, the beat drop was really good,  I guess (always gotta rave about it, one of my favorite things w

KPOP: 6/13/18 Boombayah by BlackPink 💚

Alright, alright so I've been gone for a few days now (insert random excuse here). Anyways, yusssss Blackpink is finally coming back in two days (as if this post). Soooooo to celebrate, I'm doing an insane blackpink extravaganza where I will be reviewing all of their songs in two days (admittedly they only have five songs, and I've already reviewed as if it's your last, but still something cool to look forward to Instrumental: Alright, so the background music is pretty upbeat, and gives off a really bad girl vibe, which is what was the goal with their debut album, to send a powerful message or something. Especially the first ten ish seconds, not sure what that instrument is called, but like that whole electronic thing and "blackpink in your area" (listen to the song to see what I mean i guess) topped off with the snapping is SOOO good. I really enjoyed it and it sets the mood for the whole song. Other than that, not much else to say about the beat, I guess o

KPOP: 6/8/18 Take me Higher By A.C.E 💚

Image
Alright so once again, I am late to the comeback party, hopefully next time I come back  on schedule (hehe i suck at puns). Anyways, I really am trying to go into comebacks because I want to listen to more kpop groups than those in the big 3. I mean, I guess Blackpink will be an exception, but I've found some pretty good songs in the past few days. Anyways here we go. Instrumental: So this song is pretty upbeat, and I guess since it's about talking to a girl to take me higher or whatever it makes sense that it would be upbeat. I really like a lot of the subtle aspects of the instrumental itself, such as the piano build up, the bass line post chorus (I Think?) and there's like tambourines somewhere int here too. All of these pieces help create this summery vibe which I really enjoyed. I really enjoyed the build up and the drop into the chorus, it was really upbeat, and ahhh idk why but I am getting some high school musical vibe in this. Like a super upbeat song from a teen

KPOP: 6/7/18 Remember by Katie Kim 💚

Image
Wooooo another debut post! Little bit of background, so it turns out Katie Kim was the winner of a TV show K-Pop Star 4, meaning she got the change to debut under YG (similar to how TWICE was created out of the TV show sixteen and debuted under JYP). Saw her music video and, just wow. Instrumental: So not much about the instrumental "stood out". Like there was no unique bass line, no unique melody, it was just simple, which, in all honesty, was pretty cool and very respectable for a debut song like this. What I will point out is that the drop (it's not really a drop but idk what else to call it) around the chorus is very...well good. Like it gives the reminiscing mood which the song is about (I hope lmao). One thing I want to point out is that during this drop, there's this part where (I assumer katie kim but it might just be part of the background music) goes "oh oh ohhhh" and like, it doesn't QUITE line up with the beat. Again, this is one of those,

KPOP: 6/5/18 Light by Wanna One 💚

Image
WHOA WHOA WHOA WHAT IS THIS??? AM I STRAYING FROM THE KPOP MAIN GROUPS? YOU CAN BET I AM. Anyways, so yeah, I saw online wanna one just came back, so I had to check out their new song "Light", anyways these are my thoughts. Instrumental: It was pretty good. It complimented the lyrics well, having some cool elements, such as during the chorus there's this weird chord thing, but it didn't distract from the main lyrics/singing/ whatever you want to call it. It also had a really good bop feel to it (if this is your first time to this sight, I have a really odd way of describing music). Like idk, between the casual snaps and the bass? (it's not the bass but like a kick drum or idek) but it just makes it really cool song to sit back and listen to. Also the leadup to the first chorus drop is REALLY good. Overall, I liked it. Also, the sterotypical instrumental drop after the chorus is pretty good. Lyrics: SO this is the first time I've listen to wanna one. And ye

KPOP: 6/3/18 Wake Me Up By Twice 💚

Image
OOOHHHH I'm a little late to the Twice comeback, although it isn't really because it is just a single and it's a japanese song anyway (by the way just going to classify this JPOP under my KPOP section, yes I know they aren't the same thing but like c'mon). Anyway here are some of my quick thoughts in this song. Instrumental: I have to say, I think a lot of Twice's fans like their faster songs, so it is no surprise JYP made the beat fast. It goes by pretty quick, and most of it is like a techno, synthesizer thing. Like there's this reoccurring chord and idk it just sounds very electric. Is it bad? Not really, but me personally I feel like they could've gone a different direction. And once you listen to the song, idk if it is just me, but it sounds almost like an arcade machine, something Japan is known for (leave your comment down below if you hear the same). Lyrics: VERY UPBEAT. that is literally the whole song. Obviously it's about not giving up

MUSIC: 6/1/18 Humaility by Gorillaz

Image
Alright, alright, not kpop but here we go. Let's see how much the internet will hate me because I'm cracking down. This song will be the first to not have the JTM approved green heart. It's sad but here we go. Instrumental (Beat): Just not feeling it in this song. I mean, it is this techno beat or something, but it's so slow that it was almost boring to listen to. It felt like walking along a road in texas when it is a hundred and 80 million degrees outside. Maybe this song was trying to be unique or something, but it did not hit the right points for me. There are also these guitar chords or whatever that seem out of place. Overall, this beat did not do it for me. Lyrics: Maybe if the beat was bad, the lyrics could save it. BUT WHAT THE ACTUAL FRICK THE LYRICS MAKE NO SENSE AT ALL. "I'm alone between the left hand. Reset myself and get back on track. I don't want this isolation. See the state I'm in now?" Like WHAT??? Maybe I don't understa
