Top 5 ways to get a good book next time you're at a bookstore or the library

Ok, so I will definitely write something more in depth than this, but for now, I'm just going to skim the surface 5. Figure out what your favorite book is. Then figure out who wrote it. Then, go see which books that author wrote are availible. Most often, if you like one book from an author, you like the other ones he wrote too (with the exception of James Patterson, because his MG books and adult books are wayyyy different) 4. Like a certain genre? Do a catalog search or ask someone (e.g. a B&N employee or a librarian) and see what they reccomend. Ask for that genre and your age group, so if you're in 6th grade and you like Stuart Gibb's Spy School, then ask for "Middle Grade Spy Fiction reccomendations" 3. Do a book buffet. I talked about this idea here . Don't know what you like for sure? Then walk down the aisles with a decent sized bag or a basket, looking at the book spines. Get a bunch of books, maybe 30 or even more (probably like 15 but you

Why I can't post during the day every day

Since I have to do two posts today, i guess I'll use it as a filler. I know a lot of bloggers that are popular do these incredibly complex posts that come out at like two in the afternoon, while I'm waiting until literally the last 15 minutes before i go to sleep to write a filler. Why can't I be like the cool bloggers? Simple: School, although this week, I get out, meaning that I can't use it as an excuse. But literally, I've been studying for three finals, and I haven't exactly had enough to write a good book review. Also, I'm starting to venture into the Youth Adult world. Why I haven't read YA before as a book blogger? Simple. I hate all Dystopian series (except for Hunger Games- you can't screw up Hunger Games), and the realistic mystery fiction (basically my favorite series) is often to intense for a 12 year old, with words I'm not supposed to repeat, romances that should be saved for the next Fifty Shades of Grey Movie (I haven't seen

WOO! Its Award Day!

Ok, so I already told you about this (and Stuart Gibbs commented on this :D) but I won the Reading Contest at my school for reading the most pages. Don't Believe me? Look at this Yep, that's my name. I read 91,135 pages! I frickin blew it out of the water! Next year, I plan to kill it with more than 100,000 pages! Who knows! Just so hyped now.

Top 10: Characters (Male) from books

Woo! Another top 10. This time it's best male characters. They can be from the same book, same series, or from two completely different books. 10. Coke McDonald: The Genius Files series by Dan Gutman- Because he's so stupid, he's cool. 9. Troy White: Football Genius series by Tim Green- Because he's a hard headed kid that can seriosuly play some ball (and get himself into trouble) 8. Jimmy Wilson: In my book!- Because he's so nerdy and stupid at times that he makes a fool out of himself (if I ever get my book published, you'll see why this is good) 7. Vance Jessup: Poached by Stuart Gibbs- Because he's the bully that beats up Teddy, and the guy centered around all the action in Poached 6. Stevie Kosgrov: I Funny series by James Patterson: His bullying methods are the reason Jamie's a comedian in the first place! 5. Steve Thomas: Last Shot series by John Feinstein: He's a funny, not that intelligent kid that is the detective in all the books.

Food for thought: Stuart Gibbs Fans- Why do you want to know more about upcoming books?

Honestly, I was trying to figure out what type of book review I should post when a thought came to mind, and now I'm free-writing this, no rough drafts or anything. This is to all Stuart Gibbs fans (or any fans of books in general, but I've been seeing this mainly on Stuart Gibb's blog&website). My question to you is: Why do  you want to know more about upcoming books? Now I will admit, sometimes I get giddy asking questions about Big Game, Spaced Out, and even Spy School #4, but I want to know exactly why you want to know more about his upcoming books. "Because I want to know info before everyone else!" This is true, but the problem is, do you really? Sure it'd be cool to know that Ben & Erica are going out, or Teddy finally earns the trust of Summer, or that Ben is the cool kid at spy school before everyone else. I see many flaws in this however (yes, I'm being hypocritical, but after this post I will stop asking Stuart for answers on his upc

Woo! I'm finally caught up! A survey for the few fans I have.

Once I publish this post, I will be caught up with all the missed posts! I just want to do a quick survey to see what types of books I will be reviewing. Genres: Realistic Fiction- Sports Fiction (a fav of mine)- Science Fiction- Mythology- Fantasy- Dystopian- Mystery (one of the better genres out there)- Spy Fiction (the best of the best)- Comedy- Romance (ugh!)- and anything else. What posts do you like best?: Book reviews, Top 10's, How to's, or Updates? Think that's all the questions I have. Answer down below in the comments!

Book Update: Things aren't exactly going smooth...

The first update on the book I'm writing! Ok, so I'm well into editing the second draft. But things are going at such a slow pace. I'm trying to learn how to edit, so I don't have to keep writing rafts. It's been almost a year since I first came up with the idea of having an evil organization made up of and run by kids (or more specifically nerds) and to have a nerd become a mole and ruin everything. Some more inside info of what it's about? Sure. The main character is kind-of sort-of a drop out from school. He joins the CIA where he meets an Erica Hale like (spy school series) girl. They go though adventures to stop the evil organization from setting bombs off at the super bowl. The evil organization, made up of nerds, is out to get revenge on the jocks who ruined their lives, by blowing up major sporting events, such as the super bowl, and maybe the Olympics. If it ever gets released, tell all your friends!

Weird Facts: This Blog, Stuart Gibbs, and More

So I missed a lot of posts in the past few days, so I'm going to use this as a filler. Expect a book review tomorrow as well as a movie review. Here are some weird facts! The most viewed post on this blog is one I did in August 2014! You can see it  here . It's just a quick post of why I wasn't blogging. Stuart Gibbs gets his inspiration by taking long walks. Want to become a New York Bestseller. Take a long walk, come up with an idea, and your on your way to becoming famous! I have every book Stuart gibbs has written, and some extras in paperback form. I have a decent idea of what Big Game #4 will include. I met a girl online (no we are not dating!) and we did a full on Operation, Stuart Gibbs style, to catch a kid lying! Weird Facts: Part 1 is over! Whew! got to go to sleep. It's 11:37 P.M.! Just made it!

Top 10: Books to read for Summer 2015

OMG! Sorry for not posting two days in a row(stuff happened sorry!) so I'll definitely make up for it. I'm going to make up for it by doing 2 posts for two straight days.! I'm testing out these new types of posts: the 'How to' and 'Top 10'. I kind of like making these type of posts, but I always stuck to book reviews, so today I'm testing the waters. Here are ten books you should read (or pre-order) this summer! 10. Hoot: by Carl Hiaasen. This book is good any day, but on a long road trip, this book will cure you from boredom. Roy Eberhardt notices a running boy one day on a bus ride to school. After a lengthy investigation, he learns what the running boy's intentions are. And they're not exactly what you call 'safe'. You can't go without this exiting thriller! 9. Charlie Joe Jackson (Series): Tommy Greenwald. This hilarious series is perfect at any time, especially his guide to Summer Vacation (feat. Lech Walesa!) Greenwald takes

How to become the biggest fan of your favorite author: A step by step guide to become the biggest fan in the history of ever

Today's post will be about the best ways to become the biggest fan of your favorite author. It wasn't easy, but over the span of two year, I'd like to consider myself probably Stuart Gibbs's biggest fan. Here's what I did to show my fandom for my favorite author. Step one: Find you favorite author. This is probably the hardest part. Your favorite author is usually the one who writes book you tend to re-read every month. If you can't decide between two authors, then go about with your daily life until you decide who the lucky one is. Already got a favorite author you're willing to use your precious time to become his biggest fan? Good, you may proceed. Step two: Read all of his/her books. This is self-explanatory. A big fan has to have read all of his books. Confused on why you have to do it? Well do it, and read on. You'll see why. Step three: Begin your mundane interaction with the author. Go to his blog and comment on one of his blog posts. Ask i

Calling For all People to Help Me!

Today might be a double post. Not sure,  but I will consider it. For all those kids out there, might want to skip to the second paragraph. This is Adult stuff.-----------> Adults, if you know any editors that are willing to take a chance in a kid, let me know! I feel like self-editing is going to slow now (because I have to learn how to edit) I don't  have much money to spend on an editor, so preferably, someone who offers their service for cheap, or is willing to give me a one chapter trial or something like that. Also, please alert me if you happen to know any book agents or publishers, either through a an agent or the head publisher themselves. I want to start looking at publisher options. Let me know of any information you know at justindoan8@gmail.com. You can also comment and let me know that way as well. Kids!  This is your section. After I finish writing my book (or maybe the next draft), I'm going to start sending out copues of my book (through e-mail- no, I won&#

Book Buffet Concept Idea

Today in my class, to finish the year, we did a "book buffet". Now, this is a concept I've never heard before, but I think it is one that will inspire kids and teachers everywhere. You know how when you pick a class novel to read it's always some old book written in the 1980's where some girl runs away (or whatever)? Well a book buffet is when the teacher just lays out about 12 different options (although i suppose it can work for more) Kids spend about 4 minutes, reading the first chapter or so and the book jacket. They take notes on a piece of paper and write "yes" or "no", whether they'd read the book again or not. After you go through about 5 or 6 (or how every many you can go through) you rank your top 5 selections. Give that to the teacher, and she groups you with other kids and you get to read the book you like most (sometimes it's your second or even third book though) Teachers everywhere, this is a good idea because it lets us

What to expect in the upcoming weeks

Hey everybody! Sorry for missing my daily post deadline, but I'll try to make up for it as soon as I can. Here are some cool things to expect in the upcoming weeks. I'm drawing some swaggy fan art of Spy School and I cannot wait to show you! If I miss my daily deadline, I promise there will be two posts the next day. If there aren't then just assume that day is missed, sometimes things happen you can't control. Expect reviews of Starters and Enders, The Last Musketeer Series, CJJ guide to Summer Vacation, and my awesome chat with a new friend (in Chicago!) I think that's it for now, I'm currently taking book review suggestions from fans in the comments. Trust me, my reviews are good, they're from a 7th grader who really knows his stuff (just check out my other reviews!)

Flush: The toilet thriller that will make you want to read more

Flush is an amazing book, the second book in the four book series by Carl Hiaasen. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and went on to read the other two books, Scat and Chomp, which I will have reviews of soon. Please go read this book, you won't regret it! Summary: "Dad's in Jail?" Noah Underwood's summer starts off horribly, and you know that when he spends Father's day visiting his dad in the local lockup. Noah's dad is caught setting fire to the Coral Queen  an illegal casino boat (because it's too far inland), which supposedly is dumping out all the sewage from the boat's bathrooms into the harbor (gross!). Noah decides to investigate the case, to try to prove his dad is right about everything and arrest Dusty Muleman, owner of the Coral Queen . Along the way he meets Jasper Jr., Dusty's son, and the kid bullying him to make him stop. Then he meets Shelly, a bartender for the Coral Queen. With her help, the kids devise a plan to sink the ship

I WON! I WON I WON I WON I WON!

Sorry for this being so late, but I was out last night to see Paul Blart Mall Cop 2, and I practically fell knocked out on my bed the instant I got home. So, to console you guys for me missing my daily deadline, I've decided to do a book review today! I usually don't do book reviews, but today's will be on Flush by Carl Hiaasen, look for that later today. But back to the title. I won my school's title for most pages read in the school year. Guess who read more than 90,000 pages? That's right. It's the guy who considers himself a book connoisseur, the same guy who walks into Barnes And Noble, looks at a book and describes it as being an "elegant form of literature with a futuristic ska theme to it" (all in an accent one of those french dudes with berets have!), the same guy who basically has no life other than reading, writing his book and this blog, and eating(I no I'm sad). That guy is ME!. I'll get an award during the award day ceremony at

Big Game Prediction Part 1

This is Big Game. Stuart Gibbs's newest book in the award winning FunJungle Series. Hello Everybody, today will be the almighty prediction of Big Game! Huge thanks to Stuart Gibbs for writing the thing, and everybody a Simon and Schuster, who'll release the book in October 13, 2015. Here we go. *Bang* A gunshot is heard dangerously close to FunJungle. Teddy, with his dad, is tagging along on the routing morning elephant walk (like dogs, elephants need exercise too, but there's no room in the pens, so in the wee hours of the morning, the keepers let them roam around the park) hears the gunshot, and assumes that it is just from a nearby shooting range. But his dad suspects something far more darker. "Son, I don't think that was from a shooting range. I think someone just tried to kill Rhonda" Rhonda, the latest piece to the FunJungle collection, is a white rhino, one of the few left on Earth, gone extinct due to hunters killing them for their horns. Teddy assu

OMG It's Lissa Price!

Image
Before you go on a rant, don't worry, tomorrow,  Big Game prediction part 1 will be out. I'm only putting it off because Lissa price- international best selling author of the books Starters and Enders- came to our school in middle-of-nowhere Texas! Turns out, like every other author, she's really nice, and friendly and super cool. I would show you a thousand pictures, but during her presentation, they wouldn't let us take pictures for who knows why. Basically it was just a presentation about her book and some cool insider tips on how to write which I'll post on a later post. Some cool pictures I managed to get after everything was said and done. Yes it's sideways (but who cares!) It's the books I picked up. And here are the signitures Again it's sideways, but who cares! (By the way, top reader is a reading contest at my school. I'll tell you guys more if I win.) And here's my picture with her (I wanted a selfie, but this will do!)

Spy School: The Movie

Wow! I'm only halfway through my Big Game Prediction. I got to go to sleep soon, so sorry, that won't come out today. It'll come out on Friday, because tomorrow, LISSA PRICE AUTHOR OF STARTERS AND ENDERS IS DOING A SCHOOL VISIT! I'll show you all the cool things about her visit in tomorrow's post. Back to Spy School: the movie. I'm pretty sure everybody whose read Spy School desperately wants it made into a movie. I decided to do something about that. Over on the right, there's is a button to a link for a petition. With your guy's help, we can convince movie producers that there are tons of people who are interested in making a movie. Sign that petition, and since I believe I'm in good contact with Stuart Gibbs, if we get enough signatures, I'll send it to him, and he can send it to Movie producers, since he lives in LA. Please, go sign the thing, it's free, takes a few seconds, and will change your life.

Update: Free Books!

Quick update for you guys today. I plan to predict Big Game, by Stuart Gibbs tomorrow, but today I have some decent news for you. At our school they do a contest called the reading sprint. You have to read as many pages as you can, and at the end of the semester you get a giant sonic drink- it's pretty cool. But I learned that whatever English class reads the most pages gets to go to Barnes and Noble and each person gets to pick out a FREE BOOK. So, when i heard about this news, I decided to carry the class on my back and read about 75,000 pages! I'm thinking of trying to have my friends use their free book for me, but we'll see how that works out. If you don't have an epic reading program at your school, talk to your principal, or a teacher who can relay the idea (I mean, how can you say no to more reading?)

Book Shelf Update, News, and *gasp* DAILY POSTS?

Image
Wow! I never thought that we would reach the 2000 view mark so fast! It took me about 5 months to get to 1000 views, but just last week (a month after I got back on) we've reached 2000 views. Now we've got 2250 views in a week (250 views!). So to reward you guys, I'm going to do DAILY POSTS!Yes, every day, there will either be a book review, some news in the book world (or more importantly, the Stuart Gibbs world) or cool things you should check out. In other news... My Book collection use to look like every other old bookshelf (cluttered with random stuff and dusty), but over the weekend, I managed to transform my old beat up bookshelf into this: *Just saying, the bottom two shelves are where I put all my random stuff. I plan to clean them out after I get new books. For some news in the book world: Stuart Gibbs 'Spy School' series has made the NY times bestseller list! Please congratulate the man  here . Fun Fact: His series actually beat out Harry Potte

Happy Mother's Day! This is Space Case: How do people not go crazy when you're on the moon with a murderer?

Image
Happy Mother's Day everybody! Last year, I did a post on the middle school series by James Patterson. Today, we have the long-awaited review of Space Case, by Stuart Gibbs. Technically, the main character Dash's mom is a somewhat big part of this story, so I figured I could kill two birds with one stone and I could make this Edgar Alan Poe Nominated (I secretly hate Greenhouse Glass for winning), to be award-winning book on Mother's Day. Summary: "Aww Crap, the toilet's broken" It's 2:30 A.M. on MBA (Moon-Base Alpha, the first colonization in the history of mankind) when Dash Gibson hears some intriguing news. Dr. Holtz has just made what appears to be the discovery of a lifetime, one that will change the course of mankind forever. And then things go bad. 3 hours later, he has found to have walked out on the moon without properly putting on his suit, effectively killing him. But Dash doesn't think the man has lost his mind. Instead, he thinks murder.
